Upcoming Movie's

GI Joe Retaliation 2013

GI Joe Retaliation: After it was pushed back from this premiering this summer, GI Joe Retaliation is finally going to head to theaters, in 3D. Quite a bit of hype is surrounding this film. Considered traitors on the lam, the Joe’s must take America back from the clutches of foe Cobra Commander.- March 29

Iron Man 3 2013

: Marvel’s epic conclusion to everyone’s favorite wise-cracking hero is certainly making waves even now. The movie is not even close to hitting theaters and we’ve been treated with numerous Iron Man goodies. I’m talking everything from multiple trailers to a bazillion stills, we got it all. Needless to say Tony’s last adventure will be a box office hit. The story this time around finds Tony Stark a scarred man. Month’s after the alien invasion in the Avengers, the superhero business just isn’t the same. When a new threat surfaces, Iron Man will be tested like no other. 2013 can’t get here soon enough. - May 3

Star Trek Into Darkness 2013

: Have you seen the first trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness yet? If you happened to miss it, I recommend you check it out. Director J.J. Abrams has created quite a hit with the reboot to Star Trek. Now with introductions firmly set aside, the movies sequel looks to amp things up with even more adventure and enough action to make you salivate. So how can Kirk and the rest of the Enterprise crew survive when a an unstoppable foe is unleashed on Star Fleet? Of course you’ll have to wait until next year to find out.- May 17

Fast 6 2013

Fast 6: Okay, I know what you’re probably thinking. “Yet another installment to the mind numbingly tireless Fast franchise. Why?” Well, believe it or not, the Fast films have been doing pretty good with director Justin in at the helm. Perhaps the best thing for the franchise was turning it into a series of heist films. Fast 6 takes the gang in Europe for, you guessed it, another heist. We have some returning fan favorite characters mixed in with some new ones. In short, 2013 looks is looking pretty great for movie goers. – May 24

Man of Steel 2013

: The latest adaptation of Superman to hit the big screen is already creating a lot of buzz. Promising to catapult everyone’s favorite hero into a new direction, it would seem this might be a movie to look out for. Man of Steel is a darker origin story of Superman than what we’ve seen so far. Our hero starts off his crime fighting career not immediately liked by the citizens of Metropolis. When an old foe emerges to conquer Earth, now more than ever the world needs the Man of Steel. – June 14

Kick Ass 2 2013

: We’ve been getting a lot of behind the scenes stills from what will sure to be another drop-dead hilarious and violent installment to the Kick-Ass films, Kick-Ass 2. The movies plot this time around finds our want to be heroes pitted against a new super villain team who have found out each of their secret identities. – June 28

The Wolverine 2013

: This true movie sequel to box office blunder X-Men The Last Stand has been on a lot of people’s radars. Promising to give us the Wolverine film fans deserve, The Wolverine just might be a surprise hit of 2013.- July 26

Thor The Dark World 2013

: Marvel’s second coming for everyone’s favorite Asgardian, Thor will likely be another box office hit. The epic journey continues in Thor The Dark World, this time we explore the nine realms while battling an army of Dark Elves.

A Haunted House
Starring: Marlon Wayans, Nick Swardson, Essence Atkins, Cedric the Entertainer
Director: Michael Tiddes
Out: 11 January 2013 (U.S. Dates)
Best Comedy Movies 2013
When newlyweds (Wayans and Atkins) move into their dream house, they quickly find they’re not alone. But it’s not the house that’s haunted, it’s her that is possessed with spirits – or as he calls it – “relationship baggage.” Soon he’s using the help of a psychic (Swardson), a priest (Cedric) and ghost hunters to exorcise her. R-rated parody of ‘Paranormal Activity’, ‘The Devil Inside’ and other “found footage” movies. Wayans was one of the creators of ‘Scary Movie’ but this looks far worse. The first joke in the trailer is a fart gag and it goes downhill from there. Stay away. Unless you’re 14..

Movie 43
Starring: Justin Long, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chloe Moretz, Richard Gere
Directors: Peter Farrelly, Griffen Dunne, Brett Ratner, James Gunn etc.
Out: 25 January 2013
Top 20 Best Comedy Movie, 2013
Co-produced by the Farrelly Brothers, this is a silly, raunchy anthology similar to ‘Kentucky Fried Movie’ from the ’70s. The series of 17 short films, with vague connecting story, include Gerard Butler as a perverse, foul-mouthed leprechaun kidnapped by Johnny Knoxville and Seann William Scott who want to steal his pot of gold. Director Griffin Dunne’s segment sees Kieran Culkin playing a grocery store clerk courting Emma Stone with an R-rated version of a love letter. In Peter Farrelly’s segment, Kate Winslet and Hugh Jackman go on a date in which she’s the only person who notices he has balls under his chin. Historically, anthology movies fail but this has a very starry cast and if it’s marketed like a comedic version of ‘Valentine’s Day’, which did well, it could find an audience. It’s something a bit different and I’m all for that.

Identity Thief
Starring: Jason Bateman, Melissa McCarthy, Amanda Peet, Jon Favreau
Director: Seth Gordon
Out: 8 February 2013
Best Comedy Films 2013
When a mild-mannered businessman (Bateman) learns his identity has been stolen by a shopaholic in Florida (McCarthy), he hits the road in an attempt to foil the thief. But trying to bribe, coax and wrangle her the 2,000 miles back to Denver will make him discover just how tough it is to get your name back. ‘Identity Thief’ is one of two leading comedy roles for Melissa McCarthy this year, after breaking out with ‘Bridesmaids’. I’m a fan. Did I just say she was the female John Candy? Maybe I did. Jason Bateman is doing his usual thing, which is fine. From the director of the perfectly-decent ‘Horrible Bosses’.

21 And Over
Starring: Miles Teller, Skylar Astin, Justin Chon, Sarah Wright
Directors: Jon Lucas, Scott Moore
Out: 1 March 2013
Top Comedy Movies 2013
Straight-A college student Jeff Chang has always done what’s expected of him. But when his two best friends Casey and Miller surprise him with a visit for his 21st birthday, he decides to do the unexpected for a change, even though his critical medical school interview is early the next morning. What was supposed to be one beer becomes one night of chaos, over indulgence and utter debauchery. The writers of ‘The Hangover’ make their debut as writer-directors, using a variation on the friends-get-drunk idea, set in college. If you’re looking for a youthful party movie this should be a good time. Just don’t ask why they couldn’t celebrate his birthday after his interview.

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone
Starring: Steve Carell, Jim Carrey, Steve Buscemi, Olivia Wilde
Director: Don Scardino
Out: 15 March 2013
2013-comedy-movies-burt-wonderstone.jpg
Old school Las Vegas magician Burt Wonderstone (Steve Carell) attempts to reunite with his former partner Anton Lovecraft (Steve Buscemi) to take on daring street magician Steve Gray (Jim Carrey). From the director of TV’s ’30 Rock’, this sounds promising, even if the trailer underwhelmed a bit. I’m not a massive fan of Jim Carrey’s comedy, especially these days, but Carell is great, and here he’s doing a take on Siegfried & Roy which should be a lot of fun. Imagine ‘The Prestige’, played for laughs.

Admission
Starring: Tina Fey, Paul Rudd, Michael Sheen, Nat Wolff, Lily Tomlin
Director: Paul Weitz
Out: 22 March 2013
2013 Comedy Movies List
A straight-laced Princeton admissions officer (Fey) is caught off-guard when she makes a recruiting visit to an alternative high school overseen by her free-wheeling former classmate (Rudd). He has deduced that his gifted yet very unconventional student (Wolff) may be the son she secretly gave up for adoption many years ago. Soon she finds herself bending the admission rules for the student, putting at risk the life she thought she always wanted. The trailer showed a comic cast opening with jokes then veering toward heartfelt drama. Tonally it seems to be going for something similar to ‘About A Boy’, which the director also made, but judging by the preview it’s missing that same spark.

The Heat
Starring: Sandra Bullock, Melissa McCarthy, Kaitlin Olson, Michael Rapaport
Director: Paul Feig
Out: 5 April 2013
Best Comedy Movies 2013
An uptight FBI special agent (Bullock) is paired with testy loose-cannon Boston cop (McCarthy) in order to take down a ruthless Russian drug lord. The hitch: neither woman has ever had a partner, or a friend for that matter. The premise is so unoriginal it’s almost refreshing. The trailers have shown a good chemistry between the leads, though oddly the version with swearing was less amusing. Comedy buddy-cop movies have been mostly dire in recent years but I have (some) faith in the director of ‘Bridesmaids’.

Scary Movie 5
Starring: Ashley Tisdale, Simon Rex, Molly Shannon, Anthony Anderson, Kevin Hart, Charlie Sheen
Director: Malcolm D. Lee
Out: 12 April 2013
Best Comedy Movies - List
Horror-spoof about two friends trying out for the lead in a snooty ballet company, one of whom has a controlling mother determined for her to succeed, the other of whom is also being haunted in her new home. Yes, ‘Scary Movie 5′ is mainly a parody of ‘Black Swan’ (doesn’t seem very timely?) and ‘Paranormal Activity’. Previous series leads Anna Faris and Regina Hall are not involved, so they’re calling this a reboot. Lindsay Lohan and Charlie Sheen have small roles. David Zucker, king of the spoof movie (having started it all with ‘Airplane!’), directed the previous two installments but is only co-writing this one. The new director made ‘Undercover Brother’. Don’t get your hopes up.

The Hangover Part III
Starring: Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Justin Bartha
Director: Todd Phillips
Out: 24 May 2013
Best Comedy Movies 2013
The wolfpack are back on another misadventure only this time it won’t have anything to do with lost memories. Instead the story is rumoured to be about Phil and Stu breaking Alan out of a mental institution, which turns into a road trip. And John Goodman pops up somewhere. It’s a sensible move changing the formula at this stage, it was getting tired and this frees up their wild antics. Director Todd Phillips returns, but says it’s the last ‘Hangover’ for all of them. The three leads are being paid $15m each for this, they got $300k for the first movie.

The Internship
Starring: Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Rose Byrne, John Goodman
Director: Shawn Levy
Out: 7 June 2013
comedy-2013-movies-the-internship.jpg
Two recently laid-off salesmen in their 40s (Wilson, Vaughn) try to make it as interns at a successful Internet company where their managers are 20-somethings. That company is reportedly going to be Google. It’s a ‘Wedding Crashers’ cast reunion, including a Will Ferrell cameo. The script was written by Vaughn, who previously co-penned ‘Couples Retreat’. The director made the amusing ‘Date Night’. So it’s an interesting setting and we already know the leads have good chemistry.

This Is The End
Starring: Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, Jonah Hill, James Franco
Directors: Evan Goldberg, Seth Rogen
Out: 14 June 2013
comedy-2013-movies-this-is-end.jpg
While attending a party at James Franco’s house, Seth Rogen, Rihanna, Emma Watson and other celebrities encounter the apocalypse. This is an action-comedy were everyone plays themselves. Written and directed by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen (his directorial debut), it began life as 2007 short made by Rogen called ‘Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse’. The feature has a top drawer (if overly familiar) headlining comedy cast and a potentially hilarious concept.

Grown Ups 2
Starring: Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Salma Hayek
Director: Dennis Dugan
Out: 12 July 2013
comedy-2013-movies-grown-ups-2.jpg
Follow up to the 2010 feature about a group of childhood friends who reunite years later. The original cast return, except (apparently) for Rob Schneider – which has prompted rumours of a falling out with Sandler. Steve Austin joins the cast, as does Andy Samberg playing a cheerleader, and Taylor Lautner as an antagonistic frat boy. Patrick (son of Arnie) Schwarzenegger has his first significant on-screen role. This is perhaps the most artistically unnecessary sequel of all time. There are two sharply divided audiences these days – Adam Sandler fans, and non-Adam Sandler fans who see his output as beyond lazy. Luckily for him his fans are still worth a lot at the box office – the original ‘Grown Ups’ had 10% on Rotten Tomatoes, brutal reviews, but made a staggering $162 million in the U.S. alone.

We’re The Millers
Starring: Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis, Ed Helms, Emma Roberts
Director: Rawson Marshall Thurber
Out: 9 August 2013
comedy-2013-movies-were-millers.jpg
Road trip comedy about a drug dealer (Sudeikis) who, in order to pay off a debt to his supplier (Helms), is forced to smuggle a shipment of marijuana from Mexico to the US. He devises a scheme to create a fake family known as the Millers with his neighbours (Aniston, Roberts, Will Poulter) posing as his wife and kids to bring back an RV full of weed. From the director of ‘Dodgeball’, who’s completely flunked since that movie in 2004 – 8 years of nothing and disappointment. I’m not convinced by Sudeikis as a leading man in a comedy. Aniston can be good, but has the potential to be annoying. It could work, the concept sounds appealing, but it’s a dodgy prospect as this point.

The Delivery Man
Starring: Vince Vaughn, Cobie Smulders, Britt Robinson, Chris Pratt
Director: Ken Scott
Out: 4 October 2013
Best New Comedy Movies 2013
An adult slacker (Vaughn) learns that as a sperm donor he’s fathered over 500 children. When a large group of them petition the sperm bank to reveal his identity, he has to decide whether or not to come forward while, in his personal life, his girlfriend (Smulders) makes a decision about whether he should be the father of their potential child. Britt Robertson plays one of his teenage offspring. Remake of the 2011 French-Canadian comedy ‘Starbuck’ by the same writer-director. It’s a fun concept and sounds like a good vehicle for Vaughn’s talents. Expect funny and sentimental.

The World’s End
Starring: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine, Rosamund Pike
Director: Edgar Wright
Out: 25 October 2013
best-comedy-movies-2013
Five childhood friends (Pegg, Frost, Freeman, Considine and Eddie Marsan) reunite after 20 years to repeat a legendary pub crawl from their youth, returning to their hometown once again to attempt to reach the fabled pub “The World’s End”. Over the course of the night, they gradually realise the real struggle is not just theirs but humankind’s, and completing the crawl becomes the least of their worries… The third movie in the so-called “Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy”, after ‘Shaun Of The Dead’ and ‘Hot Fuzz’. We know it’s a sci-fi but don’t know yet what the apocalyptic threat is – though if it’s about aliens again after ‘Paul’, it would be a shame. Pegg and Frost are a fantastic double act, their promotional tour interviews are funnier than most movies. Edgar Wright is a fantastic visual director who showed with ‘Scott Pilgrim’ that’s he’s upped his skills to a whole new level. It should be great.

Anchorman: The Legend Continues
Starring: Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, David Koechner, Christina Applegate
Director: Adam McKay
Out: 20 December 2013
Latest Comedy Movies 2013
The Channel 4 Evening News Team are back in action. Stay Classy, San Diego. Will Ferrell has been trying to get the studio to agree to a new installment for two years, but they kept saying the numbers didn’t add up. Now they have decided they have an ‘Austin Powers’ on their hands – a movie that didn’t perform amazingly at the box office, but had legs on dvd, and the sequel will open huge. This one follows the team trying to keep up with the rise of the 24-hour news cycle and new media. Kristen Wiig plays a love interest for Brick (Carell). Director Adam McKay returns (he’s responsible for all of Ferrell’s best movies), and says we’ll probably see Ron Burgundy and Veronica Corningstone (Applegate) fighting for custody over their child, and a musical number bigger than “Afternoon Delight”.

Last Vegas
Starring: Michael Douglas, Robert DeNiro, Morgan Freeman, Kevin Kline
Director: Jon Turteltaub
Out: 20 December 2013
Best Comedy Movies 2013
Four best friends, in their late sixties, decide to escape retirement and throw a bachelor party in Las Vegas for the last one of them to be getting married (Douglas). It’s ‘The Bucket List’ meets ‘The Hangover’. There’s a certain interest in that none of these cinema greats have ever worked with each other before. The director of ‘National Treasure’ and ‘The Kid’ probably doesn’t have the comic chops to get any big laughs. Expect a passable, forgettable affair despite the acting talent.

The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty
Starring: Ben Stiller, Kristen Wiig, Adam Scott, Shirley MacLaine, Patton Oswalt
Director: Ben Stiller
Out: 25 December 2013
comedy-2013-movies-walter-mitty.jpg
Comic-adventure about a timid magazine photo manager (Stiller) who lives life vicariously through daydreams, embarking on a true-life quest when a negative goes missing. Wiig plays his co-worker, someone who often has a key role in his fantastical imaginings, and comes to help him on his seemingly inconsequential journey. Remake of the 1947 comedy classic. Stiller’s a good choice to update Danny Kaye, and he’s directing it too. His previous effort, ‘Tropic Thunder’ was an underrated classic and although this is a milder, more sentimental tale, he’s well capable of making something special.

The Muppets 2
Starring: Kermit, Miss Piggy, Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey (in talks), Ty Burrell
Director: Nicholas Stoller
Out: TBC December 2013
best-comedy-movies-2013
The plot is unknown at this stage but the producers, co-writer and director are all returning. The composer of the songs for the first movie will also be back. Ricky Gervais, who has had memorable interactions with Elmo in the past (see YouTube) will star, replacing Jason Segal who wanted to move on. Segal’s muppet friend Walter will feature, but move to the sidelines as this is a Kermit-centered movie (as the old ones were). It’s said to be an anarchic “comedy caper” set in Europe, with Gervais playing “a man whose intentions are always in question”. Ty Burrell will be an Interpol inspector in a human cast that also includes a “Russian femme fatale” and a “slew of cameos”, such as Christoph Waltz. Tina Fey is in talks for the female lead. After the critical and commercial success of the last one, expect this to please fans of all ages.
